Almost 200 participants across 10 of our ACC schools took part in the junior and intermediate chess tournament at Parade College this week. Each student represented their school in seven individual matches with results tallied to find the champion in each division for the day.
The Junior Division Two competition was the closest and most exciting contest with only half a point separating first from third. The winner, CBC StKilda, was determined on countback from De La Salle College with Whitefriars College finishing third.
Mazenod College were the dominant force in the Junior Division One competition finishing well in front of second placed Parade College.
Parade College were able to earn promotion into Division One in 2016 with victory in the Intermediate Division Two competition whilst it was Mazenod College once again who took out the Division One competition, proving their dominance with three of the top four teams. A most notable individual performance came from James Hong of Mazenod College, who went through the day with a clean sweep of seven victories.
The ACC wish to thank Chess Kids for a tremendous job in organising and running the event and to Parade College for their most generous hosting, venue setup and student assistance. Congratulations to all coaches and participants on another great event.
